Designing for Place, Program, and the Long View

Eric Ross Architecture is a Virginia-based studio founded in 2021 with a singular commitment: designing buildings and landscapes that respond to the specific conditions of each place, client, and program. Our work spans residential, nonprofit, commercial, and prefabricated construction — all grounded in regenerative design thinking and a collaborative process that puts our clients at the center of every decision.

We approach every project with curiosity and optimism, believing that the best architecture emerges from a rigorous attention to craft and a deep respect for context. Whether it is a custom home nestled in the hills of central Virginia, a nonprofit campus designed for long-term resilience, or a commercial office that balances collaboration with focused work — each project is shaped by the unique phenomena of its site and the values of the people who will use it.

Sustainability is not an add-on to our process — it is the foundation. We prioritize bio-based materials, prefabricated building systems, passive design strategies, and on-site renewable energy production. Our goal for every project is to deeply reduce both embodied and operational carbon emissions, working toward a practice where every building we design contributes to a climate-positive future.

Founder & Principal Architect

Eric Ross

Eric Ross founded Eric Ross Architecture in 2021 after more than two decades working at the intersection of design and construction across the southeastern United States. His career has spanned roles as a project architect, construction manager, and owner's representative — giving him a rare fluency in both the creative and technical dimensions of building. Eric holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Virginia, where his thesis research explored the relationship between vernacular building traditions and contemporary sustainable design. Before founding ERA, he led projects ranging from custom residences to institutional campuses, developing a design sensibility rooted in close collaboration, material honesty, and a deep commitment to environmental responsibility. His current work focuses on regenerative design strategies, bio-based material systems, and prefabricated construction — pursuing a practice where every building contributes more than it consumes.
